The Skye Terrier A master of loyalty and devotion, plenty of character and a happy disposition the Skye makes a wonderful pet. A Skye will grow to 24 - 26 cm in height and 103cm long and slightly smaller in a female. Therefore is a long and low being more than twice the length as he is high. The Skye was bred to hunt badgers, rabbits and foxes and originated from the Isle of Skye three centuries ago and is one of the oldest know breeds. Closely related to Scottish Terriers and West Highland White Terriers but with a different coat. The coat has a long strong outer coat and a soft undercoat and for this reason it is a very easy care. Colours vary from blonde to grey and silver through to a black with darker points on his muzzle and ears. No stripping or daily brushing is required. Grooming is only necessary weekly with a pin or bristle brush. Trimming is only done around the feet. It is important to be aware of the breeds long back and keep jumping and stair climbing to a minimum.
